Haven, Pa.) - Two goals by
David Russell (Weatherly/Weatherly) helped lift the
Bald Eagles to a 3-0 shutout victory over CW Post this
afternoon, also securing the title of LHU Fall Soccer
Classic champion by virtue of a 1-0-1 record on the
weekend. The Haven is now 4-2-1 overall, while CW Post
falls to 2-3-1 in the loss.
Lock
Haven took a 1-0 lead on a goal by David Russell in the 30th
minute. Taking a cross from David Johnson
(Lebanon/Cedar Crest), Russell booted the ball into
the right side of the goal from 13 yards out for the
home-team advantage.
Just
into the second half, Michael Skeggs (Blacktown,
Australia/Evans) played a rebound off the keeper’s
hands to Andrew Meehan (Cheltenham/Cheltenham), who
knocked it past for the 2-0 lead. Russell tallied his
second of the game in the 60th minute,
receiving the right cross from Skeggs and putting it into
the back of the net.
CW Post
threatened near the end of the half, having two balls
clang off the cross bar.
Haven
keeper Chad Feerrar (Lock Haven/Central Mountain)
played all 90 minutes, making five saves and picking up
his first collegiate shutout. CW Post’s Rocco Morelli came
up with one official save over the span of the contest.
Lock
Haven will next travel to Slippery Rock University on
Sat., Sept. 18, for a 3 p.m. contest.
In the earlier contest, Bloomsburg
defeated NYIT by a final score of 2-0. A scoreless
first half gave way to a second half controlled by the
Huskies of Bloomsburg. In the 52nd minute,
Derek Smith took control of a loose ball in front of the
goal and booted it home for the 1-0 lead. Just two minutes
later, Greg Pompei netted the Huskies’ second goal off an
assist from Chris Tomarelli, upping the advantage to 2-0.
Bloomsburg’s record in the tournament improved to 1-1
while NYIT finished at 0-1-1.
