LOCK
HAVEN, Pa.—Amidst
soggy conditions and a steady rain, the Lock Haven
University men’s soccer team (5-4-1, 0-2 PSAC) defeated
Mercy College (2-3-1) today, 2-0 at Foundation Field.
Freshman Chad Feerrar (Lock Haven/Central
Mountain) recorded his second shutout of the season.
Playing
across the river because of standing water at their
regular field, the LHU scoring attack took it to the
Flyers at the start, scoring on their first shot, just
3:59 into the game. Andrew Meehan
(Cheltenham/Cheltenham) headed a crossing pass toward
Ashley Rosindale (Bradford, England/Beckfoot School)
who fired the scoring strike into the net.
As the
wet conditions took their toll on both teams, neither
managed excellent scoring opportunities. The Bald Eagles
had nearly 83 minutes between goals, but it was well
worth the wait. Chris Spinks (Dunfermline,
Scotland/Queen Anne/Telford Clg) made an acrobatic
no-look-bicycle-kick pass to the waiting Jake English
(Lawrenceville/Williamson) who fired through traffic
before the ball hit the ground and put the game out of
reach with less than five minutes left.
Feerrar
made six stops to improve to 3-1 and Paul Orbacz made
eight stops in 10 tries in the loss.
The
Bald Eagles are back in action Saturday, Oct. 2 at 1
p.m. against West Chester University. |
