#16 Men's Soccer Outlasts Cal U, 2-1

OAKDALE, N.Y. – No. 16 Lock Haven University (15-4-3) and #24 California University (Pa.) (13-7-2) can’t seem to settle things in regulation. For the second time this season, LHU and Cal U battled into double-overtime and for the second time the Bald Eagles came out victorious, 2-1. This time was in the NCAA Northeast Region Semifinals.

Senior Joe Leap (Long Valley, N.J. /West Morris Central) got things started for the Haven, hitting from the middle 18 to the upper right-hand corner of the net. Leap has had the first goal in each of the team’s last two games.

Evan Picard answered for the Vulcans, hitting off a rebound from a Chad Feerrar (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) save, knotting the game up at one less than 30 minutes in. The teams would go scoreless for the next 102 minutes, as the game-winning strike came with 29 seconds left in the second overtime.

Sophomore Patrick Long (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) found the upper right corner off a free kick to send LHU into the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Freshman goalkeeper Feerrar made an LHU season-best 11 saves on 12 tries, adding to his stellar rookie year, making him 11-1-1. C.J. Cameron made nine stops in the loss.

Leap, Feerrar, Long, and the rest of the Bald Eagles are back in action in the regional final of the NCAA Division II Tournament against No. 4 Dowling College on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. in Oakdale, N.Y.
