OAKDALE, N.Y.
– The No. 16 Lock Haven University men’s soccer team
(15-5-3) had its amazing run come to a close today as
Dowling College (16-2-4) downed the Bald Eagles for the
second time this season, 4-0. Today’s loss ended LHU’s
13-game streak without a defeat, halting their
postseason success in the NCAA Division II Northeast
Region Final.
All four Golden Lion
strikes came in the first half, putting up an
insurmountable lead by 40 minutes into the contest.
Morten Jensen started the scoring parade at the 24:30
mark, hitting off a penalty kick for his 26th
goal of the season.
Mamadou Sylla, Koko Afeto
and Chris Corridon all added goals for Dowling, bringing
the Haven’s season to a close.
Freshman goalkeeper
Chad Feerrar (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) made
two saves in just his second loss of the season, and
Neal Kitson picked up the win for the Lions.
The 2004 Bald Eagles finished the season as Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Champions, taking PSAC
awards for player of the year (Dustin Bixler
(Mechanicsburg, Pa./Redland)), coach of the year (Doug
Moore) and rookie of the year (Ashley Rosindale
(Bradford, England/Beckfoot School)). LHU also made
its first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 1992. |
