LOCK
HAVEN, Pa. – The No. 17 Lock
Haven University men’s soccer squad (1-0) kicked off
their season on the right note, downing the University
of New Haven 3-0 today (Aug. 26). Junior
Patrick Long
(Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) made the most of
his young season, assisting on all three goals for the
Bald Eagles.
“Pat
Long played very well today,” said LHU head coach
Doug Moore. “It
isn't by accident that we scored off his opportunities,
because he works so hard in practice.”
Classmate
Zach Gibbon
(Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) broke the
scoreless tie just under 13 minutes into the game with a
header off a free kick from Long. The back-and-forth
first half ended with just that one goal.
Nearly
12 minutes into the second stanza, junior
Chris Spinks (Dunfermline,
Scotland/Queen Anne) finished off another Long free
kick for the 2-0 lead. The 2004 Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference (PSAC) Rookie of the Year
Ashley
Rosindale (Bradford, England/Beckfoot School)
wasted no time regaining his goal-scoring form, as he
took a Long corner, kicking it into the ground,
ricocheting the ball into the upper corner for the final
strike.
Sophomore Chad
Feerrar (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) made
five stops in all five chances for his first win, with
freshman
William Trimble III (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim
Township) finishing off the last 19 minutes in the
team shutout.
Long,
Gibbon, Rosindale, Feerrar, Trimble and the rest of the
Bald Eagles are back in action Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 4
p.m. as they play host to No. 24 California University
(Pa.). |
