LOCK HAVEN, Pa.
– The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (3-2-1,
2-1-1 PSAC) ended a three-game streak without a win by
topping East Stroudsburg University (4-3, 2-3 PSAC) 2-1
today (Sept. 13) at McCollum Field.
“Any time you get a win over ESU it’s a
big one,” said LHU head coach
Doug Moore. “For
many years the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference) Championship has come through either ESU or
Lock Haven, so it’s always an important game.”
ESU’s Jesse Tyahla ended the scoreless
tie with his first goal of the season, with 1:11 left in
the half.
The Bald Eagles wouldn’t go into halftime
without a fight, taking advantage of an excited Warrior
defense for a quick score just 11 seconds later. A pair
of freshmen hooked up for the strike, as
Scott M. Patrick
(Harrisburg, Pa./Lower Dauphin) hit Paul Huckett
(Grimsby, England/Grimsby College) for the tying
shot. Huckett hit for the first goal of his career, in
his first action as a Bald Eagle.
Junior
Andrew Meehan
(Cheltenham, Pa./Cheltenham) put LHU ahead for good
with a nifty move around a Warrior defender, going right
to score left and put the Bald Eagles ahead 2-1.
Sophomore
Chad Feerrar
(Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) (2-1) was
nearly perfect in the net, stopping seven of eight shots
for the win.
Moore, Patrick, Huckett, Meehan, Feerrar
and the rest of the Bald Eagles are back in action
Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. at West Chester University
(3-2-1, 2-1 PSAC). |
