(Lock Haven, Pa.) - Kristen
Frantz (Boyertown/Boyertown) and
Molly Shuey (Tower City/Williams Valley) of the 23rd-ranked
Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania softball team were both honored as the
Player and Pitcher of the Week in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
Western Division for games ending March 31.
Kristen Frantz, a freshman outfielder, helped give Lock Haven a
pair of wins over Slippery Rock University (7-2, 8-2) this past Saturday.
She went 1-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt and two RBIs in game one.
In the nightcap, Frantz was 2-for-3, sending the ball deep for a double,
a triple, and the RBI on the game-winner.
For the season, Frantz is hitting .275 with three doubles and two
triples to her record.
Another rookie, pitcher Molly Shuey, was awarded the PSAC West
Pitcher of the Week honor after pocketing the 8-2 victory over Slippery Rock in
game two. She threw 6.1 innings of
that contest, striking out five batters and allowing four hits. Shuey is now 5-2 on the season and owns a 2.33 earned run
average.
The Lock Haven softball team is 19-6 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC West.
Up next for the Lady Eagles is a home contest against conference
opponent Edinboro University on Wednesday, April 3, starting at 3 p.m.
