Haven, Pa.) - Three
Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania women’s soccer players, Becky
Nichols (Wind Gap, Pa./Nazareth), Naomi Clarke (Cambridge, New Zealand/St.
Peters School), and Brooke Rangi (Kawerau, New Zealand/Kawerau College),
were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)
Division II All-Northeast Regional team. All three players earned First Team
honors, making them eligible for nomination for All-America honors.
Senior midfielder Becky Nichols makes her fourth-straight
appearance as a first team nominee, and earned third team All-America accolades
as a sophomore. Nichols is also a
four-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) selection.
She posted six goals and one assist during the 2002 season including two
game-winners. Her career total of
19 goals ranks her seventh all-time at The Haven.
It is the third first-team Northeast Regional honor for Naomi Clarke,
a two-time All-American. Clarke is also a three-time All-PSAC awardee. She led
LHU with 13 goals this season and added eight assists for 34 points.
Her goal total ranks her in a tie for third on the Lady Eagle
single-season chart and it also brings her career total to 34 – second
all-time at LHU. The junior midfielder had three game-winning goals this season
and scored a career-high of four goals against Concordia College.
Making her inaugural appearance among the region’s top players is
sophomore forward Brooke Rangi. Rangi was the PSAC Athlete of the Year
and a First Team All-PSAC selection after leading the Lady Eagles with 36
points from 12 goals and a conference-best 12 assists. She notched a team-high
of five game-winners. In two
seasons, Rangi has climbed to sixth on Lock Haven’s all-time goals (22) and
all-time assists (18) lists.
The Lady Eagle soccer team went 16-3-1 during the 2002 season, winning
the regular season PSAC crown with a perfect 10-0-0 ledger.
Lock Haven finished as semifinalists in the conference tournament and
was a Northeast Region finalist in the NCAA Division II tournament.
