LHU's Battisson Earns Academic All-America

(Lock Haven, Pa.) - Rob
Battisson (Leicester, England/High Wyland),
a Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania men’s soccer player, has been
selected as a 2001 Verizon Academic All-America team member.
Rob Battisson, a
junior at Lock Haven, earned Third Team College Division Verizon Academic
All-America honors. A two-time
First Team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) player and a
two-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete, he has been The Haven’s starting center
midfielder for the past two seasons. Battisson
earned additional recognition as a 2001 PSAC Fall Top Ten award winner for his
exceptional performance in both the classroom and on the playing field.
This season he recorded one goal and three assists helping the Bald
Eagle soccer team to a 12-5-1 overall ledger.
An English major with a concentration in Literature, Battisson currently
carries a 3.987 grade point average.
This year marks the 50th
anniversary for the Academic All-America program, founded by CoSIDA in 1952 to
recognize collegiate student-athletes for their outstanding achievements in the
classroom and on the playing field. Since
its beginnings, Verizon Academic All-America program has grown into one of the
most recognized and prestigious collegiate scholar-athlete awards nationwide,
honoring student-athletes from all NCAA championship sports.
The Verizon Academic
All-America teams are selected by a vote of the 1,800-member CoSIDA.
To be eligible, an athlete must be a varsity starter of key reserve and
maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00.
Sports information directors nominate eligible athletes from their
schools who are named to district teams prior to being voted upon the national
level.
