LHU Track & Field Heading To PSAC Indoor Championships This Weekend

(Lock Haven, Pa.) -  The Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s track and field teams will head to Lehigh University this weekend for the inaugural Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships. Both men’s and women’s teams are in contention to collect the first ever PSAC Indoor crown.
The depth of The Haven men’s team will play a factor. The Bald Eagles have at least one runner ranked among the top three places in a total of seven individual events.
Leading the charge for the men’s squad will be freshman Paul Hallman (Langhorne/Neshaminy) and sophomore Joe Weigner (Ivyland/Council Rock). They are seeded one-two going into the 800 meter run this weekend.  Hallman also hopes to leave his mark in the mile run, where he is seeded second. Both men will also contribute to the distance medley relay and the 4x800 relay -- both relays currently sit atop the PSAC standings. The other two members of the DMR include Sven Kost (Wickede-Wiehagan, Germany/Paderbon University/) and J. Brandon Shiposh (Ulster/Athens), and the 4x800 consists of Kost, Joe Webster (Folcroft/Monsignor Bonner), Weigner, and Hallman.
Also helping the Bald Eagles cause will be freshman Chris Cowan (Horseheads N.Y./Thomas A Edison). The PSAC Cross Country Rookie of the Year is ranked second in both the 3000 and 5000 meter distances.
On the women’s side, junior Jen Farrow (Canton/Athens) and newcomer Brooke Rangi (Kawerau, New Zealand/Kawerau College) will lead the way for the Haven. Farrow, a 2001 Outdoor Track and Field All-American, leads the PSAC performance list in the 400-meter dash and is seeded second in the 200-meter dash. Rangi sits atop the conference in the high jump and is seeded second in the 55-meter hurdles. In the field events, Sandy Ritz (West Hazelton/Hazelton) hopes to out jump the competition in both the long jump and triple jump. She is currently ranked first in the long jump and second in the triple jump.
Championship action begins on Saturday, Feb. 23rd and concludes on Sunday, Feb. 24th. Events begin at 11a.m. on both days.
