LHU Track & Field Heading To PSAC Indoor Championships This Weekend

(Lock Haven, Pa.) -  The Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s track and field teams will head to East Stroudsburg University’s Koehler Fieldhouse this weekend for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships from March 1-2. Both the men’s and women’s team are the returning champions after winning the Indoor crown in the championship’s inaugural season, and are in contention to bring home a second consecutive conference title.
The Haven men’s team is led by senior multi-event specialist Matt Stinson (Wescosville/Emmaus) who will have his hands full, competing in the pentathlon, as well as three individual events and a relay.  Stinson owns the number two seed in the long jump and will be a threat there along with teammate Gary Fisher (Montoursville/Montoursville), last year’s champion, who is seeded third. The jumps will get some added depth from junior Jacob Merrill (Montrose/Montrose) in the triple jump
Looking to boost the point total for the Bald Eagles is junior sprinter Anesu Mushonga (Harare, Zimbabwe/Prince Edward)
.  Mushonga boasts the top times this season in the PSAC in both the 55 and the 200 meters. Both Stinson and Mushonga are a part of the national qualifying 4x4000 meter relay, which also includes Keith Veldhuis (Thamesford, ONT/Ingersoll DCI) and Joe Webster (Folcroft/Monsignor Bonner). Both Webster and Veldhuis will also be in the top pack in the 400-meter dash finals.
In the distance events, Chris Cowan (Horseheads N.Y./Thomas A. Edison) has worked himself into the upper echelon of the conference, where he is seeded first in both the mile and the 3000 meters.
Andy Pollison (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) looks to take his national qualifying mark of 15’ 9’’ and his number one seed in the pole vault to new heights this weekend where he will face off in a highly competitive field.

Head Coach Mark Elliston
will lead the LHU men's
and women's track and field
 teams into PSAC Championship
 action this weekend.

On the women’s side, senior Jennifer Farrow (Canton/Athens) has posted the PSAC’s fastest times in both 200 and 400-meter dashes this season, and will be in search of her second- consecutive indoor 400-meter title on Sunday.
The Lady Eagles look to score big points in the multi-events, where they have three athletes in contention of placing high in the pentathlon. Seniors Erica Aagre (Wharton, N.J./Morris Hills) and Jaime Gauer (Neshanic Station, N.J./Somerville) along with sophomore Brooke Rangi (Kawerau, New Zealand/Kawerau College) are among the top of the pack in current conference standings.
A strong field contingent will also supplement the Lady Eagle efforts.  Sandy Ritz (West Hazelton/Hazelton) and Bri Palazzi (Altoona/Altoona) hope to out-jump the competition, seeded one-two in the long jump and among the top five in the triple jump.
Jocelyn Held (Slatington/Northwestern Lehigh) owns the top seed in the pole vault, while in the throws, Melissa Miller (Orefield/Northwestern Lehigh) is first on the performance list in the 20lb. weight throw.  Fellow Lady Eagle Mindy Cressley (Rochester Mills/Punxsutawney) is also among the leaders in the conference in the weight throw and the shot put.
Championship action begins on Saturday, March 1st and concludes on Sunday, March 2nd. Events begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday.
