Bald Eagle Basketball To Honor Program's 1,000 Point Scorers
14 LHU Cagers Have Reached the Millennium Mark

(Lock Haven, Pa.) -  The Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania Men’s Basketball program will honor its 1,000 point scorers on Sunday, January 13, at halftime of the Bald Eagles’ contest against East Stroudsburg University scheduled for a 3 p.m. tip-off in Thomas Field House.  In the past 60 years, Lock Haven has had a total of 14 players eclipse the millennium mark, including four from the last 10 seasons.

The first Crimson and White player to reach 1,000 was Paul Coront (’48), who ended his playing career with 1,093 tallies.  Lock Haven then saw players hit the mark in each of the three seasons from 1979-80 through 1981-82, and had six cagers reach the milestone in the five seasons from 1986-87 through 1990-91.  During that five-year period under head coaches Kurt Kanaskie (1985-88) and Dave Blank (1988-95), Lock Haven reached the NCAA Division II playoffs twice, and qualified for four consecutive PSAC Final Four appearances.
In the most recent decade of LHU men’s basketball, another four players have reached the 1,000 point milestone, including LHU’s all-time scoring leader Mike Shue (1993-97) with 1,716 career points.  The most recent Bald Eagle to break the mark was Rico Abbondanza (1997-2001), who capped off his four-year stint with 1,322 points.
