Haven University of Pennsylvania wrestling’s JaMarr Billman (Easton/Easton
Area) has accepted the invitation to compete at the 2002 National Wrestling
Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Star Classic.
The All-Star Classic will take place at Hofstra Arena on the campus of
Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., on Monday, January 28, starting at 7
p.m.
Billman, the #2-ranked wrestler in the nation at 149 pounds, will
compete in one of the All-Star Classic’s two match-ups featuring the first-
and second-ranked grapplers as he takes on Iowa’s #1 Mike Zadick (15-0).
Zadick, a senior, is a two-time All-American for the Hawkeyes after
finishing third last season.
Billman, a
two-time All-American, is 18-0 heading into this weekend’s action at the NWCA
National Duals at Ohio State University. Over
the span of his career, the Lock Haven senior has constructed a 99-9 overall
ledger and with one more win, will become LHU’s 13th 100-match
winner. Among his 18 wins this season, Billman has accumulated six falls along
with seven technical falls and three major decisions, all team-highs.
Last year, Billman matched up with Lehigh’s Dave Esposito at the NWCA
Classic, dropping a 6-4 decision for his first loss of the season.
The Lock Haven Bald Eagles (11-1, 2-0 EWL) are at the NWCA National
Duals this weekend before traveling to Kutztown University to defend their
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship from Jan. 25-26.
