(Lock
Haven, Pa.) - James
LaValle (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park), a junior wrestler for Lock Haven
University of Pennsylvania, was selected as the Eastern Wrestling (EWL)
League’s Wrestler of the Week for competition ending on Jan. 27.
LaValle, a junior Bald Eagle grappler, captured the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference (PSAC) title at 149 pounds this past weekend.
A spot starter and key back-up at 149 pounds for the LHU squad, LaValle
was asked to step in last weekend after a line-up shuffle.
He earned a top seed entering into the tournament, then worked his way
to the finals, where he defeated #2-seed Brad Cieleski of Slippery Rock, 7-3,
for the title. He had scored a
14-4 major decision over Edinboro’s Michael Ashby and a 7-0 decision over
Kutztown’s Keith Kleckner in the opening two rounds.
The wins at the PSAC tournament put LaValle at 12-4 overall for the
season.
The Bald Eagle wrestling team finished as the runners-up at the PSAC
Championships. Lock Haven (11-3, 2-0 EWL) next hosts Edinboro University and
Cleveland State University on Friday and Saturday, February 1 and 2,
respectively. Both matches start
at 7:30 p.m. in Lock Haven’s Thomas Field House.
