(Lock Haven, Pa.) - Jacob
Merrill (Montrose/Montrose) and
Sandy Ritz (West Hazleton/Hazleton), both track and field student-athletes
at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, were selected as the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s and Women’s Field Athletes of the
Week. The first installment of
this year’s indoor track and field weekly award, the honors are cumulative
for all indoor events up to Jan. 12.
Jacob Merrill, a junior, earned PSAC Men’s Field
Athlete of the Week honors after placing as the top collegiate competitor in
the triple jump at the Bucknell Blue and Orange Open.
His leap of 47’ 9-3/4” provisionally qualified him for the NCAA
Division II championship.
Senior Lady Eagle Sandy Ritz was selected as the PSAC Women’s Field
Athlete of the Week following a first-place performance in the long jump at the
Bucknell Blue and Orange Open. Her
winning mark of 18’ 4-3/4” also provisionally qualified her for the NCAA
championship.
Both Lock Haven University indoor track and field teams will next be in
action on Saturday, January 25, at the Bucknell University Octagonal.
