	July 23, 2003 LHU Football's Carey and Metz Named Preseason All-Americans

	(Lock Haven, Pa.) - Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania football’s Rob Carey (North Braddock/Woodland Hills) and Derrik Metz (Roaring Spring/Central) were both selected as 2003 Preseason All-America Team members as recently released by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette (www.donhansen.com). Carey, who will be a senior for the Bald Eagles this season, was a Football Gazette All-America – Second Team Defense pick as a return specialist and earned First Team All-Northeast Region honors as both a return specialist and defensive back. A First Team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West at both positions, Carey was also an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Star return specialist. Last season he was the second-leading punt returner in the PSAC and 11^th in the nation averaging 15.8 yards per return with two returns taken in for touchdowns. He was sixth in the conference with a 22.6-yard kick return average. As a cornerback, Carey was third on the squad with 73 total tackles while leading the way with 10 pass break ups along with three interceptions. 	Metz, also a senior this season, received honorable mention Football Gazette All-America and First Team All-Northeast Region honors as a linebacker. He was a First Team All-PSAC West linebacker and became the first Lock Haven defender to post a 100-tackle season since 1995, registering 118 total stops. His tackles total was second in the PSAC and 15^th in NCAA Division II, while his 78 solo tackles ranked him sixth overall in the country. In addition to leading LHU in tackles, he shared the squad lead in tackles for loss (14) and interceptions (4). The Lock Haven University football team under the guidance of fourth-year head coach Mark Luther will open up the 2003 season on Saturday, September 6, at Towson University at 7 p.m. ###LHU###
