LHU's Carey Named PSAC Track and Field's Rookie of the Year

   
 

(Lock Haven, Pa.) – Tom Carey (Altoona/Altoona), a freshman student-athlete on the Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania men’s track and field team, was selected as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men’s Track and Field Rookie of the Year.
           Carey captured the PSAC title in the discus, outdistancing the rest of the field by over 20 feet with a winning throw of 167’6” at the conference meet.  An NCAA Division II National Championship qualifier, Carey finished 14th with a toss of 163’10”. The Bald Eagle rookie set a new LHU record in the discus this season with his career best throw of 175’4” earlier this year.  He placed fourth at the Penn Relays in the event, and went undefeated in all other regular season competition.  Carey was also selected as the NCAA Division II East Region Male Athlete of the Year.
            The Lock Haven men’s track team finished as the runners-up at this year’s PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
