(Lock Haven, Pa.) - Amanda
Vetterlein (Springfield, Va./West Springfield),
a Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania women’s lacrosse player, was
selected as a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Spring Top Ten
award winner, as recently released by the conference office.
The
PSAC Top Ten awards recognize five male and five female student-athletes from
the PSAC who distinguish themselves in the classroom, as well as in the arena
of competition. The conference designates Top Ten Award winners after each of
the competitive sports seasons, fall, winter and spring.
It is the first such award for Vetterlein and comes on the heels of four
solid seasons as a defender for the Lady Eagle lacrosse team.
Carrying a 3.993 grade
point average in Health and Physical Education, the senior was also named to
the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District squad, is a three-time PSAC
Scholar-Athlete and is an Honors program student at the University.
Vetterlein was a second-team All-PSAC defender following this past
season, helping lead the Lady Eagles to a third-place standing among PSAC
schools in goals allowed. A four-year starter, she led LHU in caused turnovers
and ground balls in each of the last two seasons.
To be a candidate
for the Top Ten Awards, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of a
3.25 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key reserve with
legitimate athletic credentials. Only student-athletes from the Spring sports
season are eligible for the Spring Top Ten Awards.
Those sports include baseball, golf, women’s lacrosse, softball,
tennis and track and field.
At
the end of the academic year, the league announces the Scholar-Athlete Awards,
which recognize student-athletes on all PSAC squads with 3.25 cumulative GPAs
or better. Additionally, the PSAC
names the top Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of Year.
The other 2003 Spring Top Ten Award winners included: Erin Bartsch
(Bloomsburg), Page Heath (Shippensburg), Shaun Landis (Kutztown), Julie Minogue
(Bloomsburg), Ella Reilly (Slippery Rock), Aaron Rowe (Edinboro), Bobby Sadler
(California), Mark Stinson (East Stroudsburg) and Anthony Zambotti (Indiana).
