LHU's Farrow, Veldhuis Voted As PSAC Athlete and Rookie of the Year

Jennifer Farrow - PSAC Athlete of the Year

Keith Veldhuis - PSAC Rookie of the Year
(Lock Haven, Pa.) -  Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania track and field standouts Jennifer Farrow (Canton/Athens) and Keith Veldhuis (Thamesford, ONT/Ingersoll DCI) were selected as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Female Athlete of the Year and Male Rookie of the Year, respectively, as voted on by league head coaches.
Jennifer Farrow receives her first PSAC Athlete of the Year honor for the outdoor season after collecting the same award following the conclusion of the 2003 indoor track and field season.  The NCAA Division II East Region Athlete of the Year, Farrow became Lock Haven’s first three-time outdoor All-American after placing fourth in the 400 meters (54.52) at the 2003 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships. At the 2003 PSAC Championships, Farrow captured three titles, winning the 400 meters (55.41), the 200 meters (25.09) and anchoring the first-place 4x100 meter relay (47.81).  She also anchored the fifth place 4x400 meter relay.
Over her career, Farrow has garnered All-America accolades on four occasions with three outdoor and one indoor award, and is also one of only eight females in the PSAC to win four straight conference titles after capturing gold in the 400 meters all four seasons.  Academic honors have included 2003 Verizon Academic All-District, 2002 PSAC Spring Top Ten award as well as National Track Coaches Association All-Academic honors last season.
PSAC Rookie of the Year Keith Veldhuis made an immediate impact in the conference and on the strength of the Bald Eagle track and field program.  Veldhuis captured the PSAC decathlon title (6653 points) by outdistancing himself over 300 points from the closest competitor and also helped the Haven 4x100 meter relay (41.85) grab the conference crown.  He finished fourth in the long jump (23’1-1/4”) and was a member of the second-place 4x400 meter relay (3:12.35). Veldhuis qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships in both the decathlon and the 4x400 meter relay, earning All-America honors after an eighth-place finish with the relay squad.  He is the third-straight Bald Eagle to claim the conference Rookie of the Year award.
The men’s and women’s Lock Haven University track and field teams both finished in second place at the 2003 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Other conference post-season track and field award winners included PSAC Men’s Coach of the Year Steve Spence of Shippensburg University, the Male Athlete of the Year in Edinboro University’s Aaron Rowe, Women’s Coach of the Year John Papa of Slippery Rock University and Female Rookie of the Year Charity Learn of Mansfield University.  The full release can be located on the PSAC website at www.psacsports.org
