(Lock Haven, Pa.) - Amanda
Vetterlein (Springfield, Va./West Springfield), a Lock Haven University of
Pennsylvania women’s lacrosse player, was recently selected as the
2003 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II
Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The award caps off a highly successful career for the senior Lady Eagle,
who put in four solid seasons as a starting defender for the Haven lacrosse
team. Carrying a
3.993 grade point average in Health and Physical Education, Vetterlein
was named as a PSAC Spring Top Ten award winner, was on the 2003 Verizon
Academic All-District squad, is a three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete and is an
Honors program student at the University.
Also
in the classroom, Vetterlein earned the Golden Whistle Award, presented to the
senior in the Health and Physical Education Department who will best represent
that program in the future. She
received the Outstanding Teacher Professional award, bestowed on one student
selected by the faculty in the entire 14-member Pennsylvania State System of
Higher Education for their excellence in the classroom as a pre-professional
teacher. She is a member of Phi
Kappa Phi and Delta Si Kappa honor societies, and earned the Scholar-Athlete
Award handed out by the LHU Athletics Department in both her junior and senior
years.
On the field, Vetterlein was a
second-team All-PSAC defender following this past season, helping lead the Lady
Eagles to a third-place standing among PSAC schools in goals allowed. A
four-year starter and 2003 Coaches Award recipient, she led LHU in caused
turnovers and ground balls in each of the last two seasons.
