Michelle Boone, a senior pitcher, makes her first appearance on the All-PSAC West list.  Boone is the conference saves leader (3) and is also among the top four in victories with a 13-5 record on the season.  She leads Lock Haven with 61 strikeouts in 112.1 innings and nine complete games, and is second on the team with 2.18 earned run average.
Three more players, Janet Paterson (Frederick, Md./Walkersville), Lynn Spiezio (Trooper/Methacton), and Molly Shuey (Tower City/Williams Valley), earned Second Team All-PSAC West accolades.
Freshman catcher Janet Paterson started in 42 of 48 games for Lock Haven this season.  She was fourth on the team with a .298 batting average including seven doubles, one home run, and 21 RBI.  Over the course of the season behind the plate, she has allowed only five passed balls.
Lynn Spiezio, a freshman center fielder, is second on the team with a .351 batting average.  Spiezio’s speed on the base path has her second in the conference to teammate Lynnette Murray in stolen bases, having been successful on 21 of 24 attempts.  In the field, the rookie has a .962 fielding percentage with 49 putouts, two assists, and two errors.
The third Lock Haven rookie on the Second Team All-PSAC West is pitcher Molly Shuey.  Shuey is the Lady Eagle earned run average leader (2.04), and also leads LHU with five shutouts in 23 appearances.  She is second on the squad with 60 strikeouts and owns a 12-4 season record.
Third-year Lock Haven mentor Kelley Green was selected by conference coaches as the PSAC West Coach of the Year, her first such honor.  Green led the current Lady Eagle squad to a school-record for wins (35) and brought LHU back to the conference tournament for the first time since the 1995 season.  This year’s team also earned a berth to the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, marking only the second appearance in the NCAA tournament in the history of the program and the first since 1988.
The Lady Eagle softball team (35-13) finished second in the PSAC Western Division and third in the PSAC Tournament.  Lock Haven will next compete in the 2002 NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Region Championship from May 9-12 at Bloomsburg University.
