LHU Softball's Lynnette Murray Earns All-America Honor
Junior Second Baseman is Program's First-Ever All-American

   
  (Lock Haven, Pa.) -  Lynnette Murray (Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport), a softball player for Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, earned selection as a Louisville Slugger/National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First Team All-American as released yesterday evening at the NCAA Division II Softball awards banquet in Salem, Va.  She is the first All-American in the 26-year history of the Lady Eagle softball program.
            Murray, a junior second baseman, is a two-year starter for the Lock Haven Lady Eagles.  During the 2002 campaign, she led the team and was among conference leaders in several categories and also set numerous offensive records along the way.  Murray paced the team with a .409 batting average including 67 hits with 15 doubles and four home runs.  She set new Lock Haven standards in RBIs (40), at-bats (164), and stolen bases (37) while tying the school record with 15 doubles.  Quickness on the base paths established her as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s (PSAC) stolen base leader, averaging .71 per game.  Murray’s fielding percentage guarding second base was .965, finishing second on the squad with 166 putouts along with 82 assists.

            This season Murray twice earned PSAC Western Division Player of the Week and was a First Team All-PSAC West selection.  
         
The Lock Haven University softball team finished the year with a 37-15 overall and 16-4 PSAC West ledger, setting eight new single-season marks including wins.  The Lady Eagles were third in the PSAC post-season tournament, and closed out the 2002 campaign with a runner-up finish in the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship.
