LHU Track and Field Sprinter and Coach Earn Regional Honors

(Lock Haven, Pa.) -  Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania sprinter Jennifer Farrow (Canton/Athens) and Bald Eagle and Lady Eagle head track and field coach Mark Elliston were honored by the NCAA Division II Track Coaches Association recently as the East Region’s Female Athlete of the Year and Women’s Coach of the Year, respectively.
Junior sprinter Jennifer Farrow earned Co-East Region Female Athlete of the Year honors, sharing the recognition with Indiana (Pa.) University’s Amber Plowden.  Farrow tore through the Lock Haven record books this season, setting three individual (100m - 12.40, 200m - 25.00, 400m - 55.13) and two relay school marks (4x100m - 47.77, 4x400m - 3:53.17).  Her 400-meters record is also a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) all-time record, and she proceeded to break the PSAC Championship record in the event in both the trials and finals, running a 55.24 to win her third-straight title in the event.

This year Farrow helped the Lady Eagles capture their first-ever outdoor conference championship by winning the 400 meters, finishing second in the 200 meter dash, and anchoring both relays to victory (including a 53.75 split on the 4x400m relay to take the Lady Eagles from fourth to first place). She has qualified and will compete in the 400 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Division II Championships.
Veteran head coach Mark Elliston earned his second-straight East Region Women’s Coach of the Year award while helping lead the Lock Haven women's team to the PSAC Outdoor Championship by a record 48 points, the highest margin of victory in 20 years.  Under his direction, seven individual student-athletes and one relay provisionally qualified for the national meet, and four of those Lady Eagles will be in competition at the NCAA championships this week.  His athletes set six school records and one PSAC mark this season.  The Lady Eagle track and field team is currently ranked among the Top 12 in the Division II dual meet rankings.
Selected members of both women’s and men’s Lock Haven University track and field teams will be in action at the NCAA Track and Field Division II National Championships in San Angelo, Texas, this week from Thurs., May 23 through Sat., May 25.
