(Lock Haven, Pa.) - Matt
Stinson (Wescosville/Emmaus) and
Brooke Rangi (Kawerau, New Zealand/Kawerau College), both multi-event
athletes for the Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania track and field team,
were selected as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s and
Women’s Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.
Matt Stinson earned his second PSAC Field Athlete of the Week honor of
the year after finishing second in the decathlon at the Penn Relays last week.
Also the top Division II competitor, the senior Bald Eagle recorded 6,838
points with wins in the long jump (22-6½) and discus (127-9) and second-place
finishes in the 100 meters (11.2) and high jump (6-5).
Stinson’s previous best of 6,923 points earlier this season is the top
score in the PSAC this season and is an NCAA provisional mark that ranks him
fifth in Division II.
Brooke Rangi was named the PSAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
after placing third in the heptathlon at the Penn Relays with a PSAC-leading
total of 4,760 points. Her top
performances included a win in the high jump (5-4½) and third-place showings
in the shot put (35’10 ½) and the javelin (111-11).
Her point total provisionally qualifies the sophomore Lady Eagle for the
NCAA Championships and is currently eighth best in Division II.
Both Lock Haven track and field teams will be in action this Sat., May
3, as they host the LHU Qualifier beginning at 12 p.m. Other competing teams
include Bloomsburg University, Clarion University, College Misericordia,
Mansfield University, Shippensburg University and Slippery Rock University.
