Haven, Pa.) - The
Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania wrestling team was ranked 12th
among all NCAA Division I programs in the National Wrestling Coaches
Association’s (NWCA) Academic Top Twenty-five.
Junior Mike Maney (Clarence/Bald Eagle Area) was also singled out
as an Honorable Mention All-Academic Team member.
The Bald Eagle wrestlers, composed of the ten starting wrestlers along
with two backups, earned a combined grade point average of 3.048 to rank 12th
on the NWCA Top-25 list. Sacred
Heart ranked first, carrying a combined 3.412 average.
Lock Haven was the top team from the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) and
the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in the rankings.
EWL opponents Cleveland State University (17th/2.995), West
Virginia University (18th/2.97), Edinboro University (20th/2.936)
and Clarion University (21st/2.934) were also on the list.
Mike Maney, a two-time All-American at 141 pounds, earns his third
straight Honorable Mention All-Academic accolade.
Maney, a Secondary Education major with a concentration in Social
Science, owns a 3.45 grade point average.
The junior Bald Eagle grappler finished 30-6 this season, winning his
third-straight PSAC title and placing eighth at the NCAA Division I National
Championships for All-America honors. He is a three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete
and earned the PSAC Winter Top Ten award this season.
The Lock Haven wrestling team finished the season at 12-11 overall and
placed 35th at the national championships.
