(Lock Haven, Pa.) - Six members of the Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania field hockey team were selected to receive All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) honors.  Senior Lady Eagle Shannon Spease (Liverpool/Greenwood) earned additional recognition, garnering top honors by being named the PSAC Athlete of the Year.
Four Lady Eagles earned First Team All-PSAC honors, including Spease, Val George (New Oxford/New Oxford), Janelle Ebaugh (McSherrystown/Littlestown), and Jen DeNault (Hamburg/Hamburg).  Two more Haven field hockey players were selected to the Second Team, including Erika Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) and
Kellie Kulina (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin).
Spease, a senior forward for the Lady Eagles, was selected as the PSAC’s Athlete of the Year and as a First Team choice.  The 2001 PSAC Championship MVP, Spease is currently the conference’s leading scorer, having tallied 25 goals and 12 assists for a total of 62 points. She is now a two-time First Team All-PSAC player, and also merited All-America honors last season.  With 53 career goals, Spease is sixth on Lock Haven’s all-time scoring chart.
Senior forward Val George earns her first ever all-conference honor, exploding this season for 19 goals and eight assists for a total of 46 points.  The Lady Eagles’ second-leading scorer, George scored twice in the PSAC Championship game, and also scored a season and career-best five goals in an earlier win over Slippery Rock University.  Her five goals marked the most ever by a Lady Eagle in one half of play.
Midfielder Janelle Ebaugh is also a first-time All-PSAC selection.  Ebaugh, a sophomore, scored a total of 18 points from her midfield position, pocketing six goals and six assists.
Sophomore Jen DeNault, a back, collected her second all-conference honor after receiving a Second Team selection last season.  DeNault helped pilot an LHU defense that allowed only six goals and limited opponents to an average of just 4.4 shots per game over the course of the season.
Earning her second-straight Second Team nomination is junior forward Erika Grap. Grap is third on the Lady Eagle squad in scoring with 35 points from 14 goals and seven assists, and has three game-winners to her credit, including the goal in the 1-0 overtime victory over Indiana (Pa.) University.
Rookie midfielder Kellie Kulina makes her inaugural appearance on the all-conference list, earning Second Team honors.  Kulina made an immediate impact on the Lady Eagle team, posting four goals and nine assists on the season.
The Lady Eagle field hockey team, 20-1 overall, captured its second-straight PSAC post-season tournament championship last weekend with a 4-0 victory over East Stroudsburg University.  The defending Division II national champion, Lock Haven will take on East Stroudsburg on Friday, November 2, at 5 p.m. in the NCAA Division II National Championships Semifinal Round being hosted by Bentley (Mass.) College.  The other semifinal match will take place between Bentley College and St. Michael’s College at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two winners will vie for the national championship on Sunday, November 4, at 1 p.m.
