(Lock
Haven, Pa.) - Several
women’s soccer players from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania were
honored as 2001 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) performers,
as released this afternoon. The
Lady Eagles placed a program-record seven players on the all-conference list,
including two First Team selections and five Second Team picks.
Sophomore midfielder
Naomi Clarke (Cambridge, New Zealand/St. Peter’s School) and junior
defender Shannon Becker (Durham/Palisades) both merited First Team All-PSAC
honors. Clarke is a repeat First
Team selection, having earned Rookie of the Year and First Team accolades last
season. She is LHU’s
second-leading scorer, having pocketed 31 points on 12 goals and seven assists.
Clarke accounted for six game-winners, including the clincher in
double-overtime against West Chester University during the regular season.
Shannon Becker makes her first appearance on the all-conference list,
nabbing First Team honors after helping lead a defense that allowed just 0.90
goals and 6.7 shots per game. Additionally,
of LHU’s 17 wins, 10 were of the shutout variety.
Becker added one goal and one assist to the Lady Eagles’ offensive
attack this season.
Earning Second Team recognition were Erin McKasson (Irwin/Penn
Trafford), Katie Taylor (Hammonton, N.J./Edgewood), Becky Nichols (Wind
Gap/Nazareth), Kristi Ward (Philadelphia/Nazareth Academy), and Christa
Cox (Ephrata/Ephrata).
Erin McKasson, a senior forward, posted 23 points off of five goals and
a team-leading 13 assists. Her 13
assists ranks her second on LHU’s single-season chart, and gives her a total
of 28 over her career, second on the school’s all-time list. This is
McKasson’s first all-conference accolade.
Junior forward Katie Taylor currently leads the Lady Eagles in scoring,
tallying 12 goals and 11 assists for 35 points. Taylor posted two or more goals
on three occasions this season, including her first collegiate hat trick in a
4-0 victory over Millersville University. It is also Taylor’s first
all-conference award.
Junior midfielders Becky Nichols and Kristi Ward are familiar faces on
the All-PSAC lists. Nichols, a two-time First Team selection, recorded five goals
and three assists this season. She has one game-winning score thus far this
season, a double-overtime goal to lift LHU over Edinboro, 2-1.
Ward is a two-time all-conference player, earning First Team honors last
season. From her midfield
position, Ward got forward for seven goals and seven assists for 21 total
points, her best season output yet.
Junior defender Christa Cox makes her first appearance on the All-PSAC
list. She played a major role in
the same defensive success as teammate and First Team selection Shannon Becker.
Cox added one goal and one assist to the mix.
The Lock Haven women’s soccer team, ranked No. 8 nationally, is 17-3
overall and captured its third-straight PSAC Championship crown last Sunday.
The top seed in the NCAA Division II Northeast Region, the Lady Eagles
will host the winner of the regional semifinal contest between Bloomsburg
University and Slippery Rock University (11/7; 1 p.m.) for the Region
Championship and the right to advance to the national quarterfinals on
Saturday, November 10, at 1 p.m. on McCollum Field.
