Haven, Pa.) – Rob Carey (North Braddock/Woodland Hills), a cornerback
for the Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania football team, was selected as
the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division Defensive
Player of the Week for games played on Nov. 10.
Carey, a sophomore cornerback and return
specialist, made the difference in the outcome of Lock Haven’s 22-13 victory
over Mansfield University on Saturday, scoring on an 82-yard interception
return and an 80-yard kickoff return.
For the day, Carey was one of two players to record a team-high of nine
tackles along with two interceptions. He
totaled 234 return yards – 39 on punts, 103 on kickoffs and 82 on
interceptions – averaging 33.4 yards on seven returns.
For the season, Carey finished third on Lock Haven’s defensive chart
and seventh in the PSAC with 89 total stops, including 60 solo tackles. He had six tackles for loss and team-best totals of five
interceptions and 12 pass breakups. He
currently owns the top spot in the PSAC on punt returns, averaging 11.8 yards
per return, and is third in the conference averaging 26.3 yards per kickoff
return.
The Bald Eagle football team wrapped up its 2001 campaign with a 3-8
overall and 1-5 PSAC Western Division mark.
