Four LHU Field Hockey Players Selected For Senior All-Star Game

(Lock Haven, Pa.) – Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania field hockey’s Shannon Spease (Liverpool, Pa./Greenwood), Val George (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford), Marcy Frymoyer (Thompsontown, Pa./ East Juniata), and Tara Beach (Greene, N.Y./Greene Central) were selected to participate in this year’s National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II North/South Senior All-Star Game. The game will be held at Dix Stadium on the campus of Kent State University on Saturday, November 17, at 5:30 p.m.
Shannon Spease, a senior forward for the Lady Eagles, was selected the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s (PSAC) Field Hockey Athlete of the Year, earned First Team All-PSAC honors, and was named the 2001 PSAC Championship MVP. Spease is a two-time All-PSAC player and merited All-America honors last season. With 53 career goals, Spease is sixth on Lock Haven’s all-time scoring chart.
The Lady Eagles’ second leading scorer, senior forward Val George, earned her first ever all-conference honor this season, exploding for 19 goals and eight assists for a total of 46 points. George scored twice in the PSAC Championship game, and during the first half of a regular-season game played against Slippery Rock University, netted a season and career-best five goals. George’s five goals marked the most ever by a Lady Eagle in one half of play.

Marcy Frymoyer is a four-year veteran for the Lady Eagles, earning a starting position on the defensive unit in her final season for the Haven. During the season, Frymoyer was a key ingredient in LHU’s defense that only allowed six goals all season. Frymoyer helped on the offensive side as well, scoring five goals and accumulated 10 points for the year.
In goal, Tara Beach helped shutout 12 teams and made 69 saves throughout the course of the season.  Beach’s 0.270 goals-against-average was the best in the conference, and the senior finishes off her career with a GAA of .610.  Last season, Beach was a First Team All-PSAC and All-America goalie.
The Lock Haven field hockey team wrapped up the 2001 season with a 20-2 overall mark and its second-straight PSAC Championship title.  The Lady Eagles advanced to the NCAA Division II semifinals before bowing out of the national tournament in a 1-0 loss to East Stroudsburg University.
