Haven Gridders Nab All-PSAC West Honors
Running Back Maurice Walker Hailed as PSAC West Rookie of the Year

   
 

(Lock Haven, Pa.) – Several Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania football players earned selection to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams, as released today by the conference office.  Seven Bald Eagles were honored, including rookie running back Maurice Walker (North Braddock/ Woodland Hills), who earned PSAC West Rookie of the Year accolades.
            The second-straight season an LHU player has earned Western Division Rookie of the Year honors (Marcus Burkley in 2000), Walker posted three 100-yard rushing games and totaled 744 yards (67.6 ypg) on the ground.  He recorded two touchdowns this season, one in a 24-21 victory over California (Pa.) University, and the other in the 44-20 win over Cheyney University.

              Securing First Team honors were Marcus Burkley (Pittsburgh/Woodland Hills) and Rob Carey (North Braddock/Woodland Hills).  Burkley, a sophomore wide receiver, makes the all-conference list for the second-straight season after earning Rookie of the Year and Second Team honors last year.  This season, Burkley paced LHU with 417 yards receiving and four touchdowns.  He reeled in 37 passes in 10 games, averaging 11.3 yards per catch and 41.7 yards per game.
            Rob Carey is also a repeat All-PSAC performer, this year earning a First Team selection as a defensive back and Second Team recognition as a return specialist.  From his cornerback position, Carey led the Bald Eagles with five interceptions, including one run back for the touchdown against Mansfield University, and seven pass breakups.  He finished third on the team with 89 total tackles, including six for loss.  As a return specialist, Carey led the PSAC in punt returns with an 11.8 yards average, and was third in the conference in kickoff returns, averaging 26.3 yards per return along with two touchdowns.  
            Bald Eagles earning Second Team All-PSAC West mention include John Caldwell (Virginia Beach, Va./Fork Union Military Academy), Jonathan Miller (Acme/Meyersdale), DePhilip Jackson (Harrisburg/Susquehanna Township), and Lloyd Brooks (Williamsport/Williamsport).  
            Junior wide receiver John Caldwell recorded his best season yet, posting 394 yards, 32 catches, and three touchdowns.  LHU’s second-leading receiver, Caldwell averaged 35.8 yards per game and 12.3 yards per reception.
            Senior place kicker Jonathan Miller makes his first appearance on the all-conference list, scoring eight-of-15 field goal attempts and 14-of-17 point after attempts.  He split the uprights for a long of 47 yards against Bloomsburg, tying the Lock Haven distance record.  
            Defensive linemen DePhilip Jackson and Lloyd Brooks are both also newcomers to the All-PSAC West charts.  Jackson, a senior defensive tackle, was sixth on the team with 45 stops, including seven for loss.  He also led LHU with three fumble recoveries.  Brooks, also a senior tackle, registered 30 total tackles, including a team-best 10 for loss.  He also managed three sacks and an interception.
            The Lock Haven University football team finished the season with a 3-8 overall mark and a 1-5 ledger in the PSAC Western Division.
