(Lock
Haven, Pa.) - Five
Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania field hockey players received 2001 STX/National
Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II All-America awards, including four
first team recipients. Shannon Spease (Liverpool, Pa./Greenwood), Tara Beach
(Greene, N.Y./Greene Central), Erika Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten)
and Jen DeNault (Hamburg/Hamburg) all earned First Team All-America
honors, while sophomore Janelle Ebaugh (McSherrystown, Pa./Littlestown)
earned Second Team All-America accolades.
Senior forward Shannon Spease merits her second All-America honor after
leading the team in goals (25) assists (12), and total points (62). Spease was
selected the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Field Hockey Athlete
of the Year, earned First Team All-PSAC honors, and was named the 2001 PSAC
Championship MVP. With 53 career goals, Spease finished her career sixth
on Lock Haven's all-time scoring chart.
Tara Beach, a senior goalkeeper, helped shutout 12 teams and made 69
saves throughout the course of the season. Beach's 0.270 goals-against-average
was the best in the conference, and the senior finishes off her career with a
GAA of .610. A three-time All-PSAC keeper, this is Beach's fourth All-America
award, earning First Team honors last year and Second Team honors the previous
two seasons.
Erika Grap, a junior forward, played a vital role on the Lady Eagles'
offensive attack finishing third on the team in scoring with 14 goals and 7
assists. Grap had three game-winning goals to her credit, including the
clincher in the 1-0 overtime victory over Indiana (Pa.) University. A Second
Team All-PSAC selection for the second straight year, this is also Grap's
second All-America certificate.
Sophomore back Jen DeNault earns First Team All-America honors after
receiving Second Team honors last year during her rookie season. A First Team
All-PSAC selection this season, DeNault helped pilot an LHU defense that
allowed only seven goals and limited opponents to an average of just 4.4 shots
per game over the course of the season.
Receiving Second Team All-America accolades was sophomore midfielder
Janelle Ebaugh. Ebaugh received All-PSAC honors after scoring a total of 18
points from her midfield position, pocketing six goals and six assists. This is
the sophomore's first All-America bid.
The Lady
Eagle field hockey team finished with an overall record of 20-2 and was the
PSAC regular season champions and PSAC Post-Season Tournament Champion.
