(Lock Haven, Pa.) -  Junior cornerback Rob Carey (North Braddock/Woodland Hills) of the Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania football team, was selected as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week for games ending October 19.  He shares the honor with Indiana (Pa.) University’s Andrew Battle.
National accolades followed, as Carey was named the D2Football.com Defensive Player of the Week and Don Hansen's Football Gazette's NCAA Division II Tri-National Defensive Player of the Week.
Carey tied for the team high with 11 tackles, all solos, had one interception, two pass break-ups, a fumble recovery and forced fumble, and provided the big plays needed to help Lock Haven upend Shippensburg University, 26-13.  His biggest impact on the game came in the fourth quarter with the Bald Eagles holding on to a 19-6 lead with Shippensburg about to score. Carey grabbed a fumbled ball just outside the endzone and returned it back for a school-record 99-yard touchdown.  His all-purpose yardage on the game totaled 219 yards and he set up both of LHU’s field goals with a 62-yard kickoff return and a 35-yard punt return.
Carey is currently third on the team with 49 total tackles.  He leads Lock Haven with seven pass break-ups and two forced fumbles. His punt return average of 19.8 ranks second in the PSAC and he is fourth in the conference with a 24.2 yard average on kick returns.  Carey is Lock Haven’s all-purpose yardage leader and is fifth in the PSAC, collecting 115.9 yards per game.
The Lock Haven University football team (4-3, 1-1 PSAC West) will travel to No. 10-ranked Indiana (Pa.) University on Sat., Oct. 26, for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
