#2 LHU defeats #8 Bloomsburg 3-0, takes home third straight PSAC crown

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Amanda Roosa’s first inning two run homerun was all No. 2 Lock Haven would need as they took home their third straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) softball championship by defeating No. 8 Bloomsburg 3-0 in today’s title tilt at LHU’s Lawrence Field.

Roosa’s two run long ball drove in Lady Eagle pitcher Kristin Erb and gave The Haven an early 2-0 advantage.

Lock Haven (43-6) would add an additional insurance run in the second inning when a Julia Popovich single rounded pinch runner Kristin Schoenig, giving LHU a 3-0 lead.

From that moment on Bloomsburg (48-9) had no answers to Erb’s dominance in the circle as they had two hits on the game but were unable to plate a run.

The Haven’s junior hurler Erb was named the PSAC tournament MVP for her three game performance as she didn’t allow a single run and tossed a perfect game against Bloom on Thursday.

In today’s contest with the Huskies Erb pitched a complete game two hit shutout and struck out eight.

Bloomsburg pitcher Tara Reed picked up the loss as she allowed three runs on six Lock Haven hits and struck out four batters.

With their championship victory today Lock Haven joins Bloom, California and Shippensburg as the only teams to ever win at least three tournaments in a row.

Their championship performance also guarantees them a spot in next weekend’s regional tournament at Kutztown while Bloomsburg will sit at home and wait for the selections to be made to find out if they have an opportunity to take part in the regional tournament.

Regional play at Kutztown begins on Thursday.
