(Indiana, Pa.) – The Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania softball team (14-13, 6-4 PSAC West) split its twinbill on the road at Indiana (Pa.) University (18-15, 5-7 PSAC West), losing in extra innings in game one, 3-2, before rebounding for a decisive 8-3 victory in the second game.
An Indiana run in the bottom of the eighth wrapped up game one, 3-2, with the Lady Eagles on the down-side of the score.  A 1-0 lead for the Haven after Danielle Fraser (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) scored on an Indiana error in the second inning held through to the fifth inning, when a solo homer by Indiana ’s Jodie Swavely knotted things at 1-1.  In the top of the seventh, Lock Haven’s Heather Johnson (Williamsport/Williamsport) singled to bring home Colleen Welsh (Pottsville/Pottsville) and give LHU the 2-1 lead.  The lead would be short-lived, however, as Indiana matched the run in the bottom of the inning, then moved runners around the bases on a two-hit inning in the eighth for the slim 3-2 victory.
Lock Haven’s Shona Guevara (Chino Hills,Calif./Ruben S. Ayala) received the pitching loss, falling to 7-5 on the season. Guevara had fanned seven batters in 7.2 innings of work. Lynn Speizio (Trooper/Methacton) and Courtney Hughes (Schwenksville/Souderton) led the offense, each with two hits.
The Haven exploded for seven runs on nine hits in the first inning of game two, including a grand slam by senior third baseman Jocelyn Tutrani (Royersford/Spring-Ford), to take the 8-3 victory.  Courtney Hughes, Danielle Fraser and Kristin Frantz (Boyertown/Boyertown) all added RBI singles to complete the first-inning barrage. Indiana battled with two runs in the fourth inning off a two-run home run by Melissa Klingensmith and another in the fifth on a Haven error, bringing the margin to 7-3. Tutrani singled in the top of the seventh inning and brought Hughes into home for the Haven’s eighth and final run as they held off Indiana in the bottom of the frame to emerge the 8-3 victors.
            Freshman Stephanie Kinch (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside
) earned the pitching win to improve to 3-4 on the season. Kinch threw the first 5.1 innings, striking out seven.  Molly Shuey (Tower City/Williams Valley) picked up the save.  Jocelyn Tutrani had two hits, including the grand slam, with five RBI. Heather Johnson added three hits and Kristin Frantz, Courtney Hughes and Ashley Barber (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) each had two hits.
Lock Haven next hosts Millersville University on Mon., April 12, at 4 p.m. on Lawrence Field.
