(Slippery
Rock, Pa.) – The Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania
softball team (16-13, 8-4 PSAC West) swept its road
doubleheader versus Slippery Rock University (11-22, 3-11

at Harmony Road Complex in Slippery Rock, Pa.
The Haven’s Shona
Guevara (Chino Hills, alif./Ruben S. Ayala) threw
a two-hit shutout and broke back into the win column after
taking losses in her last three appearances, earning the
7-0 victory in game one.
The Lady Eagles recorded a grand slam homer for the
second-straight game, this time coming off the bat of
second baseman Heather
Johnson (Williamsport/Williamsport).
Johnson’s bases-loaded home run in the third
inning gave LHU the 4-0 lead, and before the inning was
over, a double by Courtney
Hughes (Schwenksville/Souderton) brought in Danielle
Fraser (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) for the 5-0
advantage. A
single by Megan LeVan (Washingtonville/Danville) drove home a run in the fifth
inning, and another single by Janet
Paterson (Frederick, Md./Walkersville)
in the seventh scored the Haven’s final run of the game,
winning by the 7-0 final.
Sophomore pitcher Shona
Guevara gave up only two hits over seven innings,
striking out nine in the process to improve to 8-5
overall. Heather
Johnson was 2-for-4 with the home run and four RBI.
Courtney
Hughes and Megan
LeVan both went 2-for-3, each with an RBI.
The Lady Eagles went six innings for the 10-2 win
in game two. Another big inning, this time a seven-run
shot in the second frame, sealed the deal.
Lock Haven recorded seven hits and seven runs in
the second inning ignited by a two-run double by Jocelyn
Tutrani (Royersford/Spring-Ford).
A double by Ashley
Barber (Rockville,
Md./Richard
Montgomery) scored the next runner, and a ground out
off the bat of Lynn
Speizio (Trooper/Methacton) would also score a run.
Kelly
Deitrick (Danville/Danville) doubled to drive in
Barber, and would then score after Heather
Johnson doubled to center. Slippery Rock battled back
with two runs in the fourth inning, but LHU added three
more over the next two frames, including a solo homer by Courtney
Hughes, to go ahead by eight and invoke the runs-rule
after six innings.
Junior Molly Shuey (Tower City/Williams Valley) picks up the win from the
pitcher’s circle, improving to 5-4 on the season. Shuey
went four innings, scattering seven hits with two
strikeouts. Four Haven players registered multiple hits
