Lock
Haven
University
of
Pennsylvania
softball team (17-13, 10-4 PSAC West) swept the series
with two wins today at home against
Slippery
Rock
University
(11-24, 3-13 PSAC West), winning both games by scores of
10-2 and 9-3. LHU
had defeated the Rock 7-0 and 10-2 yesterday on the road.
The Haven’s Shona
Guevara (Chino Hills, Calif./Ruben S. Ayala) scattered
six hits and gave up two runs, only one earned, to improve
to 9-5 on the season with the 10-2 win in game one. The
Lady Eagle bats picked up where they left off yesterday,
swinging for 13 hits including three off the bats of both Lynn Speizio (Trooper/Methacton) and
Jocelyn
Tutrani (Royersford/Spring-Ford).
LHU scored three in the first inning and another
three in the second to jump ahead by the 6-0 margin.
Slippery Rock tacked on two in the top of the sixth frame
on a homer by Niki
Banner and a Haven error, bringing the
score to 6-2
. In the bottom of the frame, the Lady Eagles put the game
to rest with a four-run spurt.
A two-run double by Danielle
Fraser (West Milford, N.J./West
Milford) came first,
followed by an RBI double by Janet
Paterson (Frederick, Md./Walkersville).
The final Haven run was a ground out by Lynn
Spiezio which would plate one runner to end the game,
10-2, due to the eight-run rule.
In addition to the three hits each by Spiezio
and Tutrani,
Danielle Fraser added two hits, including a double, and three RBI,
while Janet
Paterson also logged a pair of hits, including a
double, and two RBI.
Lock Haven found itself trailing midway through
game two but responded with eight runs over the fifth and
sixth innings to regain the lead and the 9-3 win. The Lady
Eagles went up 1-0 after the first inning, but the Rock
scored on a wild pitch then a double by Shannon
Tagliaferri brought home two runners to bounce the
lead over to SRU, 3-1, after the second frame.
The Haven defense would settle down, however, and
the offense took over in the bottom of the fifth to score
three runs and take back the lead, 4-3.
Courtney
Hughes (Schwenksville/Souderton) sent home two runners
with a double to left field to tie things up, then a deep
single by Danielle
Fraser scored Hughes for the lead. The Lady Eagles
tacked on five more in the sixth frame to close out the
game with the 9-3 win.
Pocketing the pitching win was Molly
Shuey (Tower City/Williams Valley), who entered in the
second inning and threw four and one-third innings. Shuey
is now 6-4 on the season. Shona
Guevara came into the game for the final one and
one-third innings, picking up her first save of the year.
Courtney Hughes went 4-for-4, including a triple and a double, with
three RBI. Heather Johnson was 3-for-4 and Danielle Fraser also added two

Edinboro
University
on Sun., April 18, for a
1 p.m.
PSAC Western Division doubleheader.
