(Lock Haven, Pa.) – The Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania softball team (17-13, 10-4 PSAC West) swept the series with two wins today at home against Slippery Rock University (11-24, 3-13 PSAC West), winning both games by scores of 10-2 and 9-3.  LHU had defeated the Rock 7-0 and 10-2 yesterday on the road.
The Haven’s Shona Guevara (Chino Hills, Calif./Ruben S. Ayala) scattered six hits and gave up two runs, only one earned, to improve to 9-5 on the season with the 10-2 win in game one. The Lady Eagle bats picked up where they left off yesterday, swinging for 13 hits including three off the bats of both Lynn Speizio (Trooper/Methacton) and  Jocelyn Tutrani (Royersford/Spring-Ford).  LHU scored three in the first inning and another three in the second to jump ahead by the 6-0 margin. Slippery Rock tacked on two in the top of the sixth frame on a homer by Niki Banner and a Haven error, bringing the score to 6-2 . In the bottom of the frame, the Lady Eagles put the game to rest with a four-run spurt.  A two-run double by Danielle Fraser (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) came first, followed by an RBI double by Janet Paterson (Frederick, Md./Walkersville).  The final Haven run was a ground out by Lynn Spiezio which would plate one runner to end the game, 10-2, due to the eight-run rule.
In addition to the three hits each by Spiezio and Tutrani, Danielle Fraser added two hits, including a double, and three RBI, while Janet Paterson also logged a pair of hits, including a double, and two RBI.
Lock Haven found itself trailing midway through game two but responded with eight runs over the fifth and sixth innings to regain the lead and the 9-3 win. The Lady Eagles went up 1-0 after the first inning, but the Rock scored on a wild pitch then a double by Shannon Tagliaferri brought home two runners to bounce the lead over to SRU, 3-1, after the second frame.  The Haven defense would settle down, however, and the offense took over in the bottom of the fifth to score three runs and take back the lead, 4-3.  Courtney Hughes (Schwenksville/Souderton) sent home two runners with a double to left field to tie things up, then a deep single by Danielle Fraser scored Hughes for the lead. The Lady Eagles tacked on five more in the sixth frame to close out the game with the 9-3 win.
Pocketing the pitching win was Molly Shuey (Tower City/Williams Valley), who entered in the second inning and threw four and one-third innings. Shuey is now 6-4 on the season. Shona Guevara came into the game for the final one and one-third innings, picking up her first save of the year.  Courtney Hughes went 4-for-4, including a triple and a double, with three RBI.  Heather Johnson was 3-for-4 and Danielle Fraser also added two
