(Lock Haven, Pa.) – The Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania softball team (24-13, 14-4 PSAC West) swept   this afternoon’s double header against Clarion University of Pennsylvania (12-16, 8-10 PSAC West), shutting out the Golden Eagles 3-0 and 8-0. With the pair of wins, the Lady Eagles clinch a playoff berth in the PSAC Tournament.
                Pitcher Shona Guevara ( Chino Hills , Calif. /Ruben S. Ayala) controlled the Clarion batters throughout game one, holding them to only two hits and striking out ten. With the win, Guevara improved to 11-5 on the season.
               At the plate, Lynn Spiezio (Trooper/Methacton) hit 3-for-4 and scored two of the Haven’s three runs. Spiezio was able to score in the third and fifth innings off of two one-out singles. Kelly Deitrick (Danville/Danville), Danielle Fraser ( West Milford , N.J./West Milford ), and Megan LeVan (Washingtonville/Danville) each recorded a hit, including RBI safeties from Deitrick and LeVan.
              In game two, Lock Haven and Clarion were in a 0-0 stalemate until the bottom of the fourth when LHU exploded for five runs off of seven hits. Courtney Hughes (Schwenksville/Souderton) and Danielle Fraser would reach base off singles with one out to get the Haven rolling. Jocelyn Tutrani (Royersford/Spring-Ford) singled to left and score Hughes from second. Janet Paterson (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) stepped to the plate and smacked a double into left center to score Fraser and put Tutrani on third.
              With a 2-0 lead and runners in scoring position, Megan LeVan kept the Haven’s momentum going when she singled to left field to score Ashley Barber ( Rockville , Md. /Richard Montgomery), who was pinch running for Tutrani. Lynn Spiezio then singled to left field to bring in Paterson from third and increase Lock Haven’s lead to 4-0. Kristen Frantz (Boyertown/Boyertown) added LHU’s last run of the inning with an RBI single up the middle.
            The Lady Eagles put the game away in the sixth when Spiezio once again led off with a single up the middle. She later scored on a single to left by Kelly Deitrick. Courtney Hughes would end the game with a two-run blast over the left center fence.
            On the mound, Molly Shuey (Tower City/Williams Valley) picked up her ninth win of the season. Lynn Spiezio, Courtney Hughes, Jocelyn Tutrani, and Megan LeVan had two hits each in the game.
