Pa.) – The Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania
softball team (26-13, 16-4 PSAC West) won both games of
its final regular season doubleheader, shutting out
Clarion University (12-18, 8-12 PSAC West), 3-0, in game
one before a 6-2 win in the second.
The Haven put up two runs in the fourth inning and
another in the fifth to seal the victory in the first
game, 3-0. Janet Paterson (
Frederick
,
Md.
/Walkersville)
and Lynn Spiezio
(Trooper/Methacton) each hit singles to knock in two
runs in the fourth. In
the fifth inning, Heather
Johnson (Williamsport/Williamsport) hit a solo homer
to up the score to 3-0.
Shona Guevara (
Chino Hills
,
Calif.
/Rueben S. Ayala)
picked up her 12th win of the season with the
complete-game victory, striking out seven while allowing
only three hits. Lock
Haven posted 10 hits on the game, Heather
Johnson, Janet Paterson, Danielle
Fraser (
West Milford
, N.J./West

) and
Kristin Frantz (Boyertown/Boyertown) each recording
two hits.
Catcher Janet Paterson went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI to pace
the Lady Eagles past Clarion, 6-2, in game two.
The Haven jumped out into a 2-0 lead after two
innings. Both teams added two apiece in the fourth frame,
including
Paterson
’s two-run homer, to move the
score to 4-2
in favor of LHU. Lock
Haven posted single runs in the sixth and seventh innings
to widen the gap and secure the 6-2 win.
Stephanie Kinch (
Painesville
,
Ohio
/
Riverside
) was the
pitcher of record, improving to 5-4 after throwing four
innings and giving up just two hits.
Molly Shuey
(Tower City/Williams Valley) picked up the save, not
allowing a single hit over the final three innings. In
addition to Paterson’s key performance at the plate, Heather
Johnson also came up big offensively, going 2-for-4
with an RBI.
Lock
Haven softball awaits the final pairings for the
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament.
The Western Division top seed will host the PSAC
tournament, which brings together the top two teams from
each division, running from April 29 through May 1.
