Haven
University
of
Pennsylvania
softball team’s (27-17, 16-4 PSAC West) quest for the
NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Region title came to an end
this morning in a 5-0 loss against
Bloomsburg
University
(28-15-1).
In
a game resumed this morning after one and a half scoreless
innings played yesterday were temporarily halted by rain,
the Huskies came alive in the top of the third to put two
on the board for the early lead. Bloomsburg’s Samantha
Basalik scored off a single by Sara
Roba, who in turn came home after a double by Dee
Wolfe. In
the top of the fourth, BU’s Kelly
Zarski led off with a homer over the left field fence.
Roba then brought two more runs in with a
bases-loaded single for the 5-0 lead.
The
Haven posted three of its five hits in the bottom of the
fourth, loading the bases, but was unable to capitalize.
Shona Guevara (
Chino Hills
,
Calif.
/Rueben S. Ayala)
took the pitching loss, falling to 14-8 on the season
after throwing the first three innings and giving up seven
hits and four of the five runs.
Molly Shuey
(Tower City/Williams Valley) threw the final four
innings, giving up only one hit while striking out four.
Five different batters registered single hits for
the Haven including Lynn Spiezio (Trooper/Methacton), Kristin Frantz (Boyertown/Boyertown),
Heather Johnson (Williamsport/Williamsport), Kelly
Deitrick (Danville/Danville) and
Jocelyn Tutrani (Royersford/Spring-Ford).
The Haven softball team concludes its season with a
27-17 overall record.
Bloomsburg will move on to face
Kutztown
University
in Game #9 of the regional championships. The winner
advances to play
Shippensburg
University
in the championship game.
