LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference (PSAC) announced its softball post-season awards
today (May 11) with the Lock Haven University team placing eight
players on the first team, one on the second team and capturing Coach
of the Year honors.
Kelley Green earns her second Western
Division honor in her six seasons at Lock Haven. The Lady Eagles are
making their second-straight and third-overall regional tournament
appearance under Green. This year's 33-8 overall mark stands as a
school record for winning percentage and has the LHU program four shy
of the school record for overall wins. This season, the Lady Eagles
produced a 17-1 record against Western Division teams, claiming their
first outright divisional title since 1988. In her time at LHU, Green
has produced a 137-109 overall record.
The Lady Eagles landed eight
players on the All-PSAC West team, led by senior centerfielder
Lynn
Spiezio’s (Trooper,
Pa./Methacton)
third first-team nomination. Spiezio
batted .322 in the leadoff position for 34 games this season while
stealing 12 bases. She broke the 12-year-old LHU career hits record,
finishing with 198 base hits.
Junior
Courtney Hughes
(Schwenksville,
Pa./Souderton)
earned first-team honors at the shortstop
position, leading the team with a .388 average. Hughes belted eight
homeruns and a team-high 35 RBIs. Hughes also broke an LHU career
record this season with 14 round trippers. Hughes led the team in
hits, doubles and runs scored as well. This is her first appearance
on the first team after earning second-team honors last season.
Third baseman
Stephanie
Hallowell (Eaglesville,
Pa./Methacton)
started every game for the Lady Eagles, batting at a .358 clip. This
is her first appearance on the all-conference team.
Junior second baseman
Heather
Johnson (Williamsport,
Pa./Williamsport)
also batted .358 this season, with nine
doubles, three home runs and 26 RBIs. Johnson was a second team
all-conference member last year.
Rounding out the infield sweep,
junior first baseman Danielle Fraser (West
Milford, N.J./West Milford)
earned her first post-season
recognition. Fraser hit at a .354 mark, with 40 hits and 18 RBIs.
