RALEIGH,
N.C. – The
No. 25 Lock Haven University
softball team (2-0) pounded out 32 hits and 29 runs en
route to a sweep of Shaw University (0-4) 21-0 and 8-0
today. Junior shortstop Courtney Hughes (Schwenksville,Pa./Souderton)
went a total of
5-for-7 with three homeruns and six RBI to lead the Lady
Eagles in the two games.
In game one, junior
Shona M. Guevara (Chino Hills, Calif./Humboldt State
University) hurled four strong innings of one-hit,
six-strikeout ball to pick up the win. Hughes led the
24-hit parade with three of her own—including two
homeruns—and four RBI.
Senior Kelly Dietrick (Danville,
Pa./Danville)
and junior
Danielle Fraser (West
Milford, N.J./West Milford)
each went 3-for-3 with two
doubles for LHU.
Game two saw the Lady
Eagles end it early with a mercy-rule decision at 8-0 in
the sixth inning. Hughes and sophomore Stephanie
Hallowell (Eagleville,
Pa./Methacton)
each went 2-for-3, as Hughes hit one homerun and drove in
two.
Sophomore Stephanie
Kinch (Painesville,
Ohio/Riverside)
got the win for LHU, spreading one hit over four innings
and fanning two.
Hughes, Guevara,
Dietrick, Fraser, Hallowell, Kinch and the rest of the
Lady Eagles are back in action Saturday, Feb. 26, at noon
as they travel to Winston-Salem State University. |
