WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Lock
Haven University softball team (4-0) was nothing short of
dominant again today in finishing off Winston-Salem State
University (0-6) 16-0 and 20-0 today. Junior
Shona M. Guevara (Chino Hills, Calif./Humboldt State
University), senior
Molly
Shuey (Tower City, Pa./Williams Valley)
and junior
Jeannette
Middlestead (Downingtown, Pa./La Salle University)
combined to allow just four hits over the ten innings of
today’s action.
Game
one was shortened by run rule to five innings, four of
which hurled by Guevara. The junior amassed six strikeouts
before handing the reigns to Middlestead for the final
three outs.
Junior
Julie Robitaille
(Mississauga, Ontario/Chipola J.C.)
went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI on
two doubles. Also chipping in was yesterday’s hero,
shortstop
Courtney Hughes
(Schwenksville,Pa./Souderton),
with a 3-for-5 effort, scoring
three times.
LHU
posted a five-run second and a four-run fifth to down the
Lady Rams.
In game
two, the Lady Eagles pounded out 17 hits to plate their 20
runs. LHU scored in every inning, including six in the
fourth and five in the fifth, finishing the game by run
rule.
Robitaille plated five runs on a 2-for-3 effort, also
scoring one herself. Senior
Colleen Welsh
(Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) was
2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI and classmate
Kristin Frantz
(Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) added
two runs and two RBI of her own. Senior catcher
Janet Paterson
(Frederick, Md./Walkersville) added 2-for-3 with three
runs scored and two RBI to the cause.
Shuey
threw four innings, fanning two
and allowing just one hit. Middlestead entered in the
fifth, striking out the side to seal the win.
LHU has
yet to allow a run in the 2005 season.
Guevara, Shuey, Middlestead, Robitaille, Hughes, Welsh,
Frantz, Paterson, Shuey and the rest of the Lady Eagles
are back in action Sunday, Feb. 27, at noon as they face
North Carolina Central University. |
