ORLANDO, Fla. – A pair of strong
starting pitching efforts sped the Lock Haven University
softball team (9-3) to two wins today (March 8) as they
shut out Merrimack College (2-4) 8-0 before outlasting
Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (9-5) 3-2.
Sophomore
Stephanie
Hallowell (Eagleville, Pa./Methacton)
recorded the first four-hit game for the Lady Eagles this
season, going 4-for-5 with an RBI against SIU-Edwardsville.
Against
Merrimack, junior pitcher
Shona M. Guevara
(Chino Hills, Calif./Humboldt State University)
threw six strong innings of shutout ball, scattering seven
hits and fanning seven. Guevara improved her record to
4-2.
Sophomore
Amanda Sheets
(Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville)
led the Lady Eagles with a 2-for-4 effort, driving in two.
Adding multi-hit games were senior centerfielder
Lynn Spiezio
(Trooper, Pa./Methacton) and junior shortstop
Courtney Hughes
(Schwenksville,Pa./Souderton),
at 2-for-4 and 2-for-3, respectively. Hughes also had an
RBI double.
The
regulation seven innings couldn’t hold the battle between
LHU and SIU-Edwardsville. Junior
Jeanette
Middlestead (Downingtown, Pa./La Salle University)
went the complete eight innings, striking out four and
allowing just three hits. With the victory over the
Cougars, Middlestead improves to 2-0.
Joining
Hallowell’s four-hit effort was Hughes, posting a
well-balanced two hits, run scored, stolen base and a
double. Junior
Danielle Fraser
(West Milford ,N.J./West Milford)
was 2-for-3 with an RBI double.
Hallowell, Guevara, Sheets, Spiezio, Hughes, Middlestead,
Fraser and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back in action
Thursday, March 10 at 2:20 p.m. against American
International College. |
