ORLANDO, Fla. – Great pitching
was the theme of the day, as the Lock Haven University
softball team (10-4) split a pair of shutouts today (March
10), blanking American International College 5-0 before
falling to St. Cloud State University 4-0. The Lady Eagles
are now 5-3 at the Rebel Games Tournament.
Against
AIC, junior
Jeanette
Middlestead (Downingtown, Pa./La Salle University)
dealt the complete-game shutout, scattering five hits and
striking out 11. Middlestead’s win pushes her record to
3-0.
Senior
Lynn Spiezio
(Trooper, Pa./Methacton) and junior
Julie Robitaille (Mississauga, Ontario/Chipola J.C.)
both went 2-for-4, but junior
Ashley Barber
(Rockford, Md./Richard Montgomery)
had the big hit, a two-RBI single.
One
pitch made all the difference in the Lady Eagles’ loss to
St. Cloud State. In the third inning, starter
Shona M. Guevara (Chino Hills, Calif./Humboldt State
University) walked a batter,
another runner got on with an error, and then gave up a
single, setting up a grand slam for the 4-0 loss.
Guevara
threw five innings, striking out two and allowing five
hits, as her record dipped to 4-3. The LHU hitters
mustered up just two hits against the Huskies.
Middlestead, Spiezio, Robitaille, Barber, Guevara and the
rest of the Lady Eagles are back in action Friday, March
11 at 2:20 p.m. against the University of Southern
Indiana. |
