SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.
– A regular seven-inning contest couldn’t contain the top
two teams in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
today (April 29), as the Lock Haven University softball
team (33-7) fell to No. 5 Shippensburg University (39-3)
in the PSAC Tournament, hosted by Shippensburg.
Junior
Jeanette
Middlestead (Coatesville, Pa./La Salle University)
threw an absolute gem, allowing just five hits and
striking out three Lady Raiders. Her counterpart, Danielle
Shields (12-1) got the complete game win, scattering seven
Lady Eagle hits and fanning 10.
The Lady Eagles’ best chance
came in the top of the 10th, as senior
Lynn Spiezio
(Trooper, Pa./Methacton)
led off with a single, and two outs later became the first
LHU player to stand on third base. The Lady Eagles failed
to get the two-out hit, and lost the game in the bottom
half.
Middlestead, Speizio and the
rest of the Lady Eagles return to action tomorrow, April
30 at 11 a.m. against #17 Bloomsburg University.
