WEST
CHESTER, Pa. – The Lock Haven
University swim team finished in ninth place at the 2005
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
Championships held at West Chester University. The Lady
Eagles earned a total of 210 points in the
competition. West Chester took first place with 1,073
points.
Excellent
relay squads continued to pace the Lady Eagles, including
grabbing five top-10 finishes in five tries. Taking top
honors for LHU were the 200 yard medley relay team of
Danielle Krieger
(Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin),
Tatiana Patakyova
(Poprad-Matejouce, Slovak Republic), Diane
Sujansky (Plum, Pa./Plum)
and Gerda
Smirnova (Riga, Latvia/
Ilguciema Vsk.) earning
fifth place with a school-record time of 1:51.06.
In the
400 yard freestyle relay the team took eighth, while the
200 yard freestyle relay also grabbed an eighth-place
finish. Finishing in tenth were the 800 yard freestyle
relay and the 400 yard medley relay.
Other top individual finishers were
Kelly Grieneisen (Pittsburgh/Plum) and
Sujansky, who finished ninth in the 200 yard freestyle and
the 200 yard backstroke, respectively. Sujansky also
placed 13th in the 50 yard freestyle with a
time of 24.52, an NCAA ‘B’ Standard.
Other
top-15 finishes for the Haven were Smirnova at 11th
in the 100 yard freestyle,
Patakyova at 11th in the 100 yard
backstroke with a time of 1:01.84. Kreiger took 12th in
the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.58 and in the
1650 yard freestyle,
Katie Grieneisen
(Pittsburgh/Plum) took 15th place.
Patakyova,
Sujansky and the Lady Eagle relay squads will wait to see
if they qualify for the NCAA Division II National
Championships in Orlando, Fla. Wednesday, March 9.
