PARK, Md. –
Competing against seven Division I schools, including host
No. 13 University of Maryland, The No. 8 Lock Haven
University swimming team finished eighth in the Terrapin
Cup, topping two D-I universities. Sophomore Isabel
Carniero (Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil)
was the lone top-10
finisher for LHU, coming in ninth for the 200-yard
butterfly at 2:08.30, a school record.
Four other school records
fell, as Carniero elapsed the 100 fly as well in 58.44,
and three relay squads (the 800 freestyle, 400 freestyle
and 400 medley) all set top marks. Carniero’s two marks
were both good for National ‘B’ Standards, as was junior
Tatyana Patakyova’s (Poprad-Matejouce, Slovak Republic/Gymnazium
Pop. Nabre) 2:11.48 in the 200-yard backstroke.
Hitting for Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) marks were Katie
Grieneisen (Pittsburgh/Plum) in the 1650 freestyle
(18:42.48), Becca Rhoades (Lancaster,
Pa./Penn Manor)
in the 200 freestyle at 2:03.84 and Gerda Smirnova (Riga,
Latvia) in the
50 freestyle (24.91), 100 freestyle, and 100 breaststroke
Carniero, Patakyova,
Grieneisen, Rhodes, Smirnova and the rest of the Lady
Eagles are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 12 against Penn
State University-Altoona in the Zimmerli Pool. |
