Head Swimming Coach

The Lock Haven University Director of Athletics Sharon Taylor announced the hiring of Andrew Waeger as head swimming coach today (July 19).  Waeger spent the past three seasons at Slippery Rock University, serving as head coach since 2003.

“We are very pleased to have Andy as part of our athletics program here at LHU” said Taylor.  “His excitement about swimming is contagious, and we hope it will add to the further development of our program.”

A native of Dublin, Ohio, Waeger graduated from Fairmont State College in 2002.  He was a four-year letterwinner and served as team captain during his senior season.  Weager was named graduate assistant coach at Slippery Rock for the 2002-2003 season.  He accepted the head coaching position in 2003, overseeing the men’s and women’s teams of 32 swimmers.

“I was given a good opportunity coaching a large squad at Slippery Rock,” said Waeger.  “Coming to Lock Haven is going to be a welcomed change.  I will be able to work more one-on-one with a smaller group of women.”

Last year, the Lock Haven swim team placed ninth at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.  The women also finished eighth on the College Swim Coaches
Association of America all-academic team list with a 3.27 team GPA.

“I expect great things for the team this year and in the near future,” said Waeger.  “I hope to bring a renewed enthusiasm to the program.”
