NEW YORK AND EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.
Headlined by a sensational mens distance medley relay
and six individual winners, the Lock Haven University
track and field teams split to the New Balance
Collegiate Invitational at the NYC Armory and the
DeSchriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg University
this weekend. The foursome of
Ryan
Blood (Summerdale, Pa./East Pennsboro),
Tim
Hite (Altoona, Pa./Altoona),
Cory J. Spidell (Home, Pa./Marion Center) and
Chris Cowan (Horseheads, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison)
put together a DMR of 9:57.71 in the NYC Armory that
snapped the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA.
Joining the list with an NCAA qualifying mark at the New
Balance Collegiate Invite was sophomore
Aaron Benson (Mt. Jewett, Pa./Kane Area) with a
14:52.12 in the 5000 meters.
At
the DeSchriver Invitational, the Haven earned six wins,
three each from the mens and womens squads.
For
the Lady Eagles, sophomore Maggie Borden (Hanover,
Pa./Delone Catholic) earned a victory in the 400
meters, while freshman
Angela Kramer (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) earned
her third win of the season in the pole vault and senior
Brooke Rangi (Kawerau, New Zealand/Kawerau College)
took first in the 55-meter hurdles.
Ashley Hartman (Garrett, Pa./Berlin Brothersvalley)
continues her brilliant rookie season by tying the
11-year-old school record in the 55 meter race.
On
the mens side, sophomore
Jim
Dempsey (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) took top
honors in the high jump, classmate
Chris Robson (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) finished
first in the 5000 meters in a meet-record 15:23.46 and
the 4x400 relay of Hite, junior
Keith Veldhuis (Thamesford, Ontario/Ingersoll DCI),
sophomore
Shawn Clancy (Hornell, N.Y./Hornell) and senior
Paul Hallman (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) earned a
victory at ESU as well.
Blood, Hite, Spidell, Cowan, Benson, Borden, Kramer,
Rangi, Hartman, Dempsey, Robson, Veldhuis, Clancy,
Hallman and the rest of the LHU track and field teams
are back in action Saturday, Feb. 13 at Slippery Rock
University.
