LHU Opens Outdoor Track and Field Season at Susquehanna

SUSQUEHANNA, Pa.  – The Lock Haven University track and field squads picked up the outdoor meet season yesterday (March 26) at the Jim Taylor Invitational, hosted by Susquehanna University, hitting 33 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying marks. The women’s team earned 12 top-three finishes, while the men’s squad posted seven.

 

Freshman pole vaulter Angela Kramer (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) cleared a 10-foot-6 mark, good for the win in her first collegiate event. The 4x100 relay squad of Ashley Hartman (Garrett, Pa./Berlin Brothersvalley), Bri Palazzi (Altoona, Pa./Altoona), Laura Phillips (York, Pa./Central York) and Maggie Borden (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) also took a first-place finish in 49.89.

 

Borden and Phillips also earned runner-up finishes in the 400 meters and long jump, respectively.

Other runner-ups for the Lady Eagles were freshman Nicole Kulp (Hatboro, Pa./William Tennent) with a 35-foot 10 ½ in the triple jump, junior Shelly Levy (Philadelphia/West Philadelphia) in the shot put and senior Sara McCleary (Rockton, Pa./DuBois) in the high jump.

On the men’s side, indoor All-PSAC honoree Jim Dempsey (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) continued his success in the high jump with a 6-foot-6 leap, good for runner-up status. Junior sprint specialist Tim Hite (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) took second in the 400 meters.

Hite also joined his 4x100 relay mates, Sean Hvizdzak (Bradford, Pa./Bradford), Keith Veldhuis (Thamesford, Ontario/Ingersoll DCI) and Tom Skrivanek (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown), for a runner-up finish in 43.34. Sophomore Ed Kaminski (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) rounded out the runner-ups for the Bald Eagles with a 140-foot-9 spin on the discus.

Kramer, Hartman, Palazzi, Phillips, Borden, Kulp, Levy, McCleary, Dempsey, Hite, Hvizdzak, Veldhuis, Skrivanek, Kaminski and the rest of the LHU track and field teams will be back in action Friday, April 1 at the Liberty Multis, hosted by Liberty University.
